CORE+ Founder Amy King said “we are absolutely thrilled to partner with the Hawks in what is such an exciting time not only for the Hawks, but women’s sport in general”. King went on to say “we were particularly attracted to the Hawks’ philosophy and commitment towards the local community and creating accessibility – values that are extremely important to all of us at CORE+”.
As part of the partnership with the Hawks, we will be integrating their unique fusion fitness style of pilates classes within the training framework of the squad to ensure the girls are well equipped to prepare and recover for peak performance. “We’re really looking forward to integrating CORE+ with our players and our program and for this partnership to extend beyond 2017” said Napoli.
ABOUT THE HAWKS VFL WOMEN’S TEAM
The Box Hill and Hawthorn Football Clubs launched a women’s team to compete in the 2017 VFL Women’s Competition in November and have spent the pre-season forming an inaugural squad on and off the field.
This initiative will provide an extensive pathway for girls of the Eastern Region to the elite level of football and further confirms the Hawks commitment to women’s football as it builds towards entering a team in the AFL Women’s Competition.
Patrick Hill was appointed to the role as inaugural head coach in November. Hill was a development coach at the Box Hill Hawks in 2011, before becoming a senior assistant coach to Damian Carroll in 2012-2014. He was part of the 2013 Box Hill Premiership Team as well as the 2014 Grand Final side. In 2015, Hill became head coach of Frankston in the VFL where he coached for two seasons.
The inaugural Box Hill VFLW team will be led by Captain Melissa Kuys (Collingwood AFLW player), and Vice-Captain Tamara Luke. The Hawks Women’s list of over 40 girls has been compiled from ten different local clubs, and boasts elite athletes from other sports such as SEABL basketballer Chantella Perera, Australian cyclist Emma Mackie, Australian Indoor Hockey player Sarah Goode and former Melbourne Kestrels Netballer Tamara Luke.
The Hawks Women’s team ran out for the first time against the newly formed Geelong VFL team at Simonds Stadium on May 6 in a historic event for both clubs. They will play 7 home games at Box Hill City Oval in Season 2017.
